One of the pleasures of Istanbul is being surrounded by water. Though there are millions of people living here, and far too much concrete per capita, if you’re in the Old City, you’re never far from a water view, with tree-filled parks rimming the shores.
Our fishing village of Samatya is tucked between the transit hub of Yenikapi to the east and the ancient fortress of Yedikule to the west. By train, we are a short hop via the Marmaray – 1o minutes into Sultanahmet, 15 minutes into Sirkeci/Eminonu. 20 minutes by taxi to Ataturk Airport.
For such a huge city, living like a local here is peaceful and easy. Good restaurants and bars, a farmer’s market on Saturdays, ancient remnants of the Byzantine past everywhere you look. Come find out for yourself, by renting long or short term.
